Urgent Update: Tax Year Changed
Pakistan's tax year 2025-26 ended on June 30, 2026. The Finance Act 2026-27 was passed by the National Assembly on June 23, 2026, received presidential assent, and was published in the official Gazette on June 26, 2026, taking legal effect from July 1, 2026 for Tax Year 2027. This is enacted law, not a proposal. Any page or calculator still titled 2025-2026, or still calculating using last year's slabs, is now out of date and should be updated to the current Tax Year 2027 structure below.
The core changes for salaried individuals: the Rs. 600,000 tax-free threshold is unchanged, and the bottom two brackets (1 percent and 11 percent) are unchanged. Rates were cut in the middle brackets, the old single 35 percent band starting at Rs. 4.1 million was split into three steps with the top 35 percent rate now starting at Rs. 7 million instead of Rs. 4.1 million, and the 9 percent surcharge that applied to salaried individuals earning above Rs. 10 million a year has been fully abolished.

Formula and Tax Calculation Logic Behind Salary Tax Calculator Pakistan
The Pakistan Salary Tax Calculator follows the official income tax slabs announced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) under the Finance Act 2026-27, effective July 1, 2026 for Tax Year 2027. The calculation methodology is based on a progressive tax system where different portions of your income are taxed at different rates.
Income Tax Slabs for Tax Year 2027 (Effective July 1, 2026)
The current tax structure for salaried individuals in Pakistan is as follows:
- Up to Rs. 600,000: 0% tax rate (tax-free income bracket)
- Rs. 600,001 to Rs. 1,200,000: 1% of the amount exceeding Rs. 600,000
- Rs. 1,200,001 to Rs. 2,200,000: Rs. 6,000 + 11% of the amount exceeding Rs. 1,200,000
- Rs. 2,200,001 to Rs. 3,200,000: Rs. 116,000 + 20% of the amount exceeding Rs. 2,200,000
- Rs. 3,200,001 to Rs. 4,100,000: Rs. 316,000 + 25% of the amount exceeding Rs. 3,200,000
- Rs. 4,100,001 to Rs. 5,600,000: Rs. 541,000 + 29% of the amount exceeding Rs. 4,100,000
- Rs. 5,600,001 to Rs. 7,000,000: Rs. 976,000 + 32% of the amount exceeding Rs. 5,600,000
- Above Rs. 7,000,000: Rs. 1,424,000 + 35% of the amount exceeding Rs. 7,000,000
Surcharge
There is no surcharge for salaried individuals under the current law, regardless of income level. The 9 percent surcharge that used to apply above Rs. 10 million annually remains in place for non-salaried, business-income filers, but has been removed for salaried individuals specifically.
What Changed From the Previous Tax Year
- Up to Rs. 600,000: 0%, unchanged
- Rs. 600,001 to Rs. 1,200,000: 1%, unchanged
- Rs. 1,200,001 to Rs. 2,200,000: 11%, unchanged
- Rs. 2,200,001 to Rs. 3,200,000: reduced from 23% to 20%
- Rs. 3,200,001 to Rs. 4,100,000: reduced from 30% to 25%
- Above Rs. 4,100,000: the old single 35% band was split into 29%, 32%, and 35%, with the 35% rate now starting at Rs. 7,000,000
- Surcharge above Rs. 10,000,000: the 9% surcharge has been abolished for salaried individuals
Worked Example: The Relief in Practice
Scenario: A salary of Rs. 400,000 per month, or Rs. 4,800,000 per year, shows the change clearly since this income level falls in one of the newly split brackets.
- Yearly Tax, Old (FY2025-26): Rs. 861,000
- Yearly Tax, New (FY2026-27): Rs. 744,000
- Monthly Tax, Old (FY2025-26): Rs. 71,750
- Monthly Tax, New (FY2026-27): Rs. 62,000
- Annual Savings: Rs. 117,000
- Monthly Savings: Rs. 9,750
At this income level, the new structure saves roughly Rs. 9,750 every month compared to the old slabs, purely from the rate cuts and the new intermediate brackets, without any change in gross salary.
Calculation Methodology
The calculator performs the following steps:
- Multiplies monthly salary by 12 to get annual income
- Identifies which bracket the annual income falls into from the table above
- Applies that bracket's formula, a fixed base amount plus a percentage of the amount exceeding the bracket's starting point
- Divides the resulting yearly tax by 12 to get the monthly tax deduction
- Subtracts tax from income to get take-home pay, both monthly and yearly
Use Cases of the Salary Tax Calculator Pakistan
1. Personal Financial Planning
Knowing exact take-home pay after tax makes monthly budgeting, saving, and investment planning more accurate than working from gross salary alone.
2. Job Offer Evaluation
Comparing offers by net salary rather than gross salary matters more when the offers fall into different tax brackets, since a higher gross figure doesn't always mean a proportionally higher take-home amount.
3. Salary Negotiation
Working backward from a target net income to the required gross salary makes negotiation conversations more concrete.
4. Verifying Employer Deductions
Checking this calculator's result against an actual payslip is a quick way to confirm an employer is withholding the correct amount under current law.
5. Freelancers and Contractors
Those with salary-like income can use this to estimate tax and set aside the right amount over the year, though genuinely self-employed or business income follows a different, generally higher rate schedule.
6. Career and Raise Planning
Understanding how a raise interacts with the progressive brackets, especially near a bracket boundary, clarifies what a promotion actually adds to take-home pay.
